Health Insurance Nutrition Consulting: Who Pays What and How Much?

Most people do not know that their health insurance covers a large part of professional nutrition consulting. Not a marketing trick. A legal entitlement under section 20 SGB V.

What the insurance covers

Statutory health insurers subsidise prevention courses that are certified under section 20 SGB V. For nutrition consulting that is usually up to two courses per year, often covering 80 to 100 percent of the cost.

How the process works

You register for the certified course, go through the consulting and submit the certificate of participation to your insurer. The subsidy is then reimbursed to you. The only thing that matters is that the course carries the correct certification.
